This weekend the MANNES college of music and PARSONS the new school for design collaborated to bring to the stage at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater, the New York Premiere of Jonathan Dove's modern opera FLIGHT. I've been the Wig, Hair and Makeup Designer for The New School MANNES OPERA Department for ten years and still have a great time working with these young talented singers led by Artist Director, Joseph Colaneri.
Directed and produced by Dean Moss/Gametophyte, Inc. from a commissioned original text by Thomas Bradshaw, it features (in order of appearance): Pete Simpson as John Brown; Okwui Okpokwasili as Frederick Douglass; Aaron Hodges as Watson (JB's son), and Tymberly Canale as Helen Pitts (FD's second wife). The custom created wigs and hair pieces were designed and constructed by Amanda Miller.
It was a busy summer in the wigshop offering support with custom wig and facial hair rentals and sales to the fab hair/makeup teams on locally made TV series like ELEMENTARY, GIRLS, THE GOOD WIFE, and new series' UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT for NBC and CRIME for HBO.
I also did design work on a couple films #MADEINNY. Watch for future posts as the films are released in the next year.
Freelance writer Katie Calautti approached me via email at the start of the year about an article she wanted to write for Vanity Fair. We found a time for her to come by the wigshop for a visit. What a great time!
I'm thrilled to share the full article that went *live* at vanityfair.com just today!
